You may want to rattle on about why you are the perfect fit for the position and why the company needs to choose you, but the job interview should have given you that chance already. The interviewer is already familiar with you, so discussing why the position is a good fit for you is a way for you to put a new spin on promoting yourself to the interviewer. If you can, go past the typical thank you for your time and help and make the follow-up email more personal to the job interview. They can be even more helpful to the people that didnt spend time with you during the interview, like a recruiter if you havent kept in much contact with them. Make them as personalized as you can. Make you talked about something specific that you can include in the email. The more personalized the email is, the less likely it is that your email will relay the message of I am only sending this because I feel like I have to in order to get the job. Contact your references   If you havent already, take the time to notify the references you listed on the job application that they may be contacted by your potential employer. Not only is notifying them of their standing as your job reference a courtesy, but its also important to adequately prepare them for a phone call from your potential employer. While they may still be able to provide a sufficient enough explanation of you and what you are capable of on the spot, but if you   let them know ahead of time that you used them as a reference and a little about the position and company you are applying for, they may put even more effort into their answer. They will be more likely to tailor their answer to why you not only excelled in your past experiences but why you can excel in the position they are inquiring for. Remember that your references are doing you a favor and let them know that you genuinely appreciate that they agreed to be your references and are willing to discuss your experience on your behalf. Continue you the job search and keep your options open   Keeping your options open doesnt necessarily mean that you are being pessimistic and expecting the worst result possible in the wait after your job interview. Instead, itll give you the chance to channel your energy into something while you are waiting. Consider other job offers you have or take time to look for other job opportunities. Having another job position on the backburner is never going to hurt you, in fact, it will give you something to focus on if you are actively working on that job application process at the same time. Take a break for yourself When it comes to actively applying for jobs, you can often find yourself exhausted or burnt out at the energy and mental strength it takes to go through the job application process. After the job interview, you might not even feel anything close to immediate relief after its conclusion, but you definitely should not be left wallowing and waiting for someone to get back to you. After sending out a follow-up email, you do not have much to do except to wait for an answer, whether it be to know whether you got the job or not, or just that you need to do a few more things in the job application process. After experiencing the stress of applying for the job, its important to treat yourself to a much-needed break. Call your support system your family or friends to catch up or make plans for dinner, or simply for a quick pick-me-up when you are feeling down and overanalyzing your performance in the job interview. Destress in your favorite way to take your mind off of the job interview results: take a walk, treat yourself to your favorite ice cream, go out to the movies.   Sitting there and wallowing is not going to have the results come any quicker, so you might as well take advantage of the time you have to give yourself a break. It’s a good way to make sure you don’t spend your entire paycheck eating out, and to make sure that you’re eating nutritious meals and not easily accessible unhealthy food. When you know that you have food at home, you will be less tempted to go out to eat (and thus, spend money on something that is likely unhealthy). Your plan doesn’t have to be fancy, just write down the days of the week, and what you will eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for each day. Even an easy plan like that will be helpful. Make a grocery list After you plan your meals, you can make a grocery list to help you remember all the ingredients you will need to buy for your planned meals. Having a list will help you keep your spending in check, because you won’t spend money on food that’s not written in your plan. Also, a list will help you resist the urge to buy junk food. If it isn’t on your list, don’t buy it! Keeping a grocery list will keep your budget and your meal plan on track; you won’t overspend and you won’t buy unnecessary junk food. Prep your meals in advance As college students, we don’t have much time to cook on the weekdays, which is why we love going to a quick restaurant where we can simply grab something and go. However, “grab and go” foods often are not the healthiest or the most budget-friendly. For that reason, you should prepare your meals for the week in advance, when you have some time. If you prepare your healthy meals on the weekend, you can grab it and go when you’re busy during the week. Preparing your meals in advance has all the benefits of a “grab and go” restaurant without the high prices and calories. Don’t eat out so often I know this is much easier said than done, but if you would like to save money and eat healthier, do not eat out so often. Going out to eat is expensive and often unhealthy, so it’s best to limit the number of times you can eat out per week. By making your own food and eating out less, you have more control over your budget and over what you are putting into your body. As a college student, it’s impossible to not eat out, so you don’t have to completely stop, just limit yourself to only a couple of times per week. All in all, try to find a good balance between eating out and making your own food. Skip Starbucks and make your own coffee at home An easy way to save money is to cut down on your visits to Starbucks (or any other coffee shop). Yes, the drinks are good and it’s a fun atmosphere to study in, but the costs will add up quickly. Because of that, you should make your own coffee at home. It will save you money and will likely have less sugar than your typical coffee order. Again, you don’t have to completely eliminate your coffee shop trips, just limit yourself to only once or twice a week, or once every other week. By limiting your coffee shop trips, you save lots of money and cut down your sugar consumption. If you have a meal plan, use it College students often find their dining hall food gross, so they don’t take advantage of the meal plan they already paid for. This is an unwise financial decision because you have already paid for many meals. Instead of going out to eat somewhere else, take advantage of the dining hall and try to find something there that isn’t gross. Most dining halls have a salad bar, which is healthy and not gross; this would be a good option for your health and for your wallet. If you have already paid for a meal plan, try to eat at your dining hall every once in a while! When you do eat out, drink water with your meal Many people don’t realize how expensive drinks are, or how much sugar they contain! Even a simple fruit juice will set you back a few dollars, and you’ll be taking in many extra calories and grams of sugar. Alcoholic drinks are especially notorious for both being expensive and unhealthy. On the other hand, water is free, has no calories or sugar, and it will hydrate you. For that reason, when you do go out to eat, drink water with your meal; don’t buy any other drinks. If you drink water, your wallet and your body will thank you. It is difficult to set aside enough time to learn French properly and to practice what you have learned. There is not just one best way to learn French, however. Here are a few tips to study French in those in-between minutes on the go! In the car Keep some French music in your car. Whenever you drive somewhere, turn it on. For lower and mid-level students, this could be an audio course like those from Rosetta Stone, Pimsleur, or Berlitz. It could also be music with songs that include comprehensible lyrics in French. For mid to upper level students, look for short stories, literature, or news. One resource to investigate is thinkLANGUAGE, which offers subscriptions to monthly French audio on various topics read aloud by native French-speakers. For lower to mid-level students especially, keep an eye out for those CDs that have a transcript and possibly a translation. On the bus Download the audio from your French CDs onto your iPad or another device you carry around with you regularly. This is especially important if you dont drive much and favor walking, biking, public transit, or carpools where you wont necessarily be in control of the radio and CD settings. Keep earphones with you as well, so you can listen without disturbing those around you. Make it a habit to turn on your French audio while you are sitting on the bus or walking around town. If you have the transcripts with you and are in a place where you can read as you listen, follow along as the audio plays. While you wait Maintain a set of flashcards with your most recent French  vocabulary, and keep it in your bag, purse, or pocket.
